Education Overview
Broward County public schools, vocational schools, and colleges and
universities continue to produce quality students who compete effectively
for good jobs nationally.
The Broward County
School System is an important and growing part of Broward County's economy
and vigor. With 22,000 employees, it is the County's largest employer.
More than 230,000 students are enrolled in school, and it is the nation's
largest fully accredited school system and the 5th largest in the nation
overall. More than 70% of the school district's teachers have enrolled
in post-graduate and professional development programs. A significant
capital improvement program is nearing completion. Over the last decade,
many public schools have been remodeled and 50 new schools have been
built.
Many colleges and
universities serve Broward County - 13 in all - including Florida Atlantic
University, our premier state university; Broward Community College,
the largest post-secondary educational institution in Broward County;
and Nova Southeastern University, the largest private university in
Florida also known for its innovative programs.
